Winemakers

Led by second generation owner-winemaker, Matthew Barry, the wine making team at Mount Avoca has elevated the wine quality and the Mount Avoca brand back into the limelight.

Matthew and Lisa Barry set the strategy several years ago to recapture the essence of the very best of The Pyrenees.  Cam McPherson has implemented this strategy and consistent improvements in wine quality have gleaned many strong reviews and a 5 star Halliday rating.

The teams commitment to quality is evident in their approach to how the vineyard soils are managed as grape quality is where all great wines start.  The aim to drive the Mount Avoca reds to new levels of intensity and elegance has paid handsome dividends and the tight and clean house style for the whites is driven by the belief that wines should carry intensity, complexity and richness while retaining the elegance, delicacy and "lightness of being" that defines the very best of all art, be it dance, painting, cuisine or the subtle art of wine.

WINEMAKER: Cameron McPherson

Cam, fresh from three years in Margaret River brings an unbridled passion and enthusiasm to every thing he does.  With over 10 years experience in Australia and overseas he has already had a major impact in his first two years at Mount Avoca.  He is the one with the critical job of nurturing every wine and allowing the latent flavour and power of each wine to reach its full potential.  Attention to detail is redefined under Cam’s watchful eye and nose, with recent wines a testament to his ability to produce some of the best wines the Pyrenees has ever seen in what he regards as an under-rated area.  Cam's belief in the potential of Mount Avoca to create some  of Australia's greatest wines is borne out by the numerous 90+ point reviews and Gold medals since  Cam joined Mount Avoca.
