Free olives! July 22 to mid August
We have already picked about two and a half tonnes and estimate there is that much again still to be picked.
The olives are mainly Manzanillo one of the finest Spanish varieties and Barouni, a Tunisian cultivar, now widely planted in California.
Both are ideal for pickling and also make really great tasting olive oil, although the yields are exceptionally low while the flavours are great. The olive oil available in our cellar-door is all made from these trees.
Just email us on olives@MountAvoca.com or call us on 5465 3282, Mon-Fri, 10 - 5 to arrange a time to pick as many olives as you like! We are open 7 days, but you will need to let us know before hand. Although almost 40 years old the trees have been pruned to about 2.5 metres high and they can be reached easily from the ground, so all you need is your self and something to put the olives in.
